With a focus on personalized care, she ensures that each patient receives the attention and treatment they deserve.

EXPERTISE & EXPERIENCE

Dr Ku is one of very few surgeons who has completed both GLAUCOMA and CORNEAL/ ANTERIOR SEGMENT fellowships. This dual qualification offers a unique dimension to her practice, allowing her to manage glaucoma & anterior segment cases with a comprehensive and precise approach.

Dr Ku is part of advisory boards assisting in the development of Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgeries (MIGS) and Minimally Invasive Bleb Surgeries (MIBS). In addition, she is one of the investigators in one of the latest MIGS trial based in Australia. During her fellowship in Singapore, she also participated in the landmark Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma EAGLE trial.

Dr Ku is passionate about education for Ophthalmologists and Optometrists.

  • Honorary Clinical Professor at the Department of Optometry & Vision Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), specifically contributing to the Optometry therapeutics program.

  • Provides invaluable clinical supervision for optometrists participating in the Advanced Certificate in Glaucoma program.

  • Assisted with the development of Multiple Mini Interviews for Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) as part of the Ophthalmology trainee selection program.

  • Previously an Honorary Senior lecturer, University of Auckland.

AWARDS

Dr Ku has received several awards, including:

  • The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) Best Presenter Award

BACKGROUND and EDUCATION

Dr Ku began her Ophthalmology career in the United Kingdom. Following this, she returned to Australasia to complete her training with prestigious Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO).

Dr Ku completed extensive advanced micro-surgical training, including two fellowships in world-renowned institutes in Singapore and Canada

-       Glaucoma fellow at Singapore National Eye Centre with Professor Aung Tin, Professor Tina Wong & Associate Professor Shamira Perera.

-       Cornea and external disease and refractive surgery fellow at the Toronto Western Hospital with Professor David Rootman, Dr Allan Slomovic and Assistant Professor Clara Chan.

During her fellowship training, Dr Ku developed expertise in the management and surgery of primary and complex glaucoma patients (especially Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma & minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries).

Furthermore, she also gained expertise in the following treatments: complex cataract surgery, pterygium and ocular surface reconstructive surgery and collagen cross-linking for keratoconus, as well as ocular imaging.
